Memorandum Submitted on Legal Marriage Age Issue

SAMABIKAS Nepal, in collaboration with the Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs) district network, has submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the Chief District Officer, urging the government to retain the legal marriage age at 20 years instead of reducing it to 18 years, as currently proposed in the House of Representatives.

This action is part of ongoing advocacy efforts to ensure the protection of women and girls' rights, safeguard their health and well-being, and promote their full participation in society. SAMABIKAS Nepal believes that the legal marriage age should remain at 20 to ensure that young individuals, especially girls, are given the opportunity for education and personal development before marriage.

Through this memorandum, SAMABIKAS Nepal and the WHRDs district network continue to stand firm on their commitment to women's empowerment, advocating for policies that support the rights and dignity of women and girls in Achham and beyond.
